Casa Mazatlán
This house* is located in Mazatlan, a very warm and humid city in the Pacific Coast of Mexico.
A simple palette of low maintenance materials remains in their raw and natural state. The main walls are built with rammed earth, a material with a very high thermal mass which moderates temperatures and reduces the need for air conditioning.
The public area of this one-storey house is designed as an open terrace between two gardens. The glass doors can be completely opened, creating a continuous experience between interior and exterior space, and creating a nice crossed ventilation. The guest rooms and studio are independent from the main house but still connected by the central garden, allowing the two main occupants of the house to live in the main area and only open the other rooms when needed.
